CONCEPT DELIVERS 394 HP AND 332 LB-FT OF TORQUE
Audi revealed its five-door TT Sportback concept at the Paris motor show. It’s a stretched-out, powered-up version of the small TT coupe. Audi says it draws inspiration from the current A7 and A5 Sportback.
Audi says the concept uses a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine, delivering 394 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The company also says the TT Sportback has a 40 mpg potential. Power is routed through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to all four wheels. The concept has a theoretical 0-62 mph sprint time of 3.9 seconds
“With the TT, Audi created one of the automotive design icons of the last 20 years,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi board member for technical development. “In the years since, we have designed our five-door Audi A5 Sportback and Audi A7 Sportback. In our Audi TT Sportback concept show car, we are now fusing both concepts to form a new member of a potential TT family.”
Like other Audis, the TT Sportback concept gets a 12.3-inch screen in place of instruments. The customizable display provides top quality graphics, according to Audi, and the center console-mounted rotary dial that controls everything features a touch pad to enter characters or gestures.
The TT Sportback is bigger all around than its two-door sibling, measuring 11.4 inches longer, about 2.3 inches wider, 1.1 inches lower and the wheelbase is about 5 inches longer.
The five-door Audi TT Sportback concept is 4.47 metres long, 1.89 metres wide, and 1.38 metres high, and is built around a wheelbase of 2.63 metres. Compared with the new production TT, it is 29 centimetres longer, 6 centimetres wider, 3 centimetres lower and has a 12 centimetre longer wheelbase.PHOTO BY AUDI
The Sportback gets Audi’s Singleframe grille, which is flatter and wider in this application. In back, stretched headlights point to the four rings logo in the center, and two exhausts are molded into the bumper.
Underneath, the TT Sportback uses a MacPherson suspension setup in front and a four-link in the rear. Weight is saved though use of aluminum. Wheels measure 21 inches, giving the Sportback a classic concept look, while 18-inch brake discs fill the inside of the rims.
Audi gave no indication that it would put this car into production, only saying that “the TT Sportback concept unites two concepts to form a new member of a potential TT family.”
We’ll let you know if we hear more.
