Is this 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint the legendary Aussie's swan song?

Ford’s Final Falcon gets big power and small production

With Ford moving to global platforms and ending Australian production, Car Advice is reporting that the 2016 Ford Falcon could be the last of its kind. Fortunately, Falcon sedan fans will have a shot at two going-away goodies: the XR6 Turbo Sprint and the XR8 Turbo Sprint.
The XR6 Sprint sedan’s 4.0-liter V6 gets more power thanks to a bigger turbocharger and injectors from the equally Australian F6, as well as a bigger intercooler. The XR6 will have 435 hp under normal operation, but during the 10-seconds of "overboost" power jumps to 496 hp. The XR8 Sprint sports a 5.0-liter V8 that operates in a similar fashion: 463 hp under normal use, and 536 during overboost.

The V6 model is saddled with a six-speed automatic, whereas the V8 comes standard with a six-speed manual. Gold-painted six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo calipers should get this Falcon stopped in a hurry.

Production will be limited 550 of the XR6s and 850 XR8s, and both will feature numbered build plates. Everything seems to be shaping up for Ford Australia’s Falcon farewell, but only time will tell if this is the end of Mad Max's cruiser of choice.
