Handling package turns Ferrari California T into a canyon carver

Make your drop-top Ferrari GT louder, stiffer and faster

The Ferrari California T is getting a handling and sound upgrade at the Geneva motor show. The “Handling Speciale” pack changes up the transmission shift points, adds more stiffness with new springs, and bolts on a new exhaust system.
The California T is Ferraris latest grand touring drop top. The current turbocharged model replaced the old naturally aspirated version and is generally considered better all around than the first California convertible. However, it’s not a corner carver like the 488 -- at least it hasn't been, but with this handling pack, it might get close.

The package includes 16 percent stiffer front springs and 19 percent stiffer rears, which results in less body roll, dive and pitch. The new programming also increases the speed and response of the magnetorheological dampers, which helps when exiting corners on bumpy roads. The company notes that the upgrade may “marginally reduce the ride comfort.”

Ferrari also changes up the gear shift logic “resulting in faster, sportier gear engagement during both up and down shifts.”

Finally, the HS pack includes a newly designed exhaust system that increases the exhaust note as the speed increases. We’re not exactly sure what it did before. Ferrari says the new exhaust was developed simultaneously with the engine and transmission controls to “underline the performance gains.”

California Ts with the upgrade feature a new front grille and rear diffuser with matte black tailpipes.

The base price of the California T is $198,973; U.S. pricing for the Handling Speciale pack hasn’t been revealed. In Italy it’ll cost 7,077 euros, which translates to about $7,700. Actual American pricing will come closer to its launch at the Geneva motor show.
